Got game? SCVNGER does. Mashable’s Jennifer Van Grove writes that the location-based mobile gaming platform reached the 1 million user mark this week, less than nine months after launch. This comes after the startup snagged a partnership with Sprint and $15 million in funding.

What is SCVNGR? It’s an application that allows organizations to create challenges for mobile users. The challenges require players to go to physical locations and complete tasks to earn points. Players’ progress can be shared on Facebook or Twitter.

How do companies use SCVNGR?

Companies, educational institutions and other organizations use the app for customer engagement campaigns. For example, the restaurant chain Buffalo Wild Wings Grill & Bar challenges customers to use their smartphones to complete tasks, such as taking a photo of a fan with a particular NBA team. Some prizes, like Buffalo Wild Wings or Coca-Cola, are immediately redeemable; fans that rack up a specific number of points are eligible for a grand prize trip to see the NBA finals.

How do you see SCVNGR fitting into social media strategy?
