According to Mashable.com, Thursday June 30th is the 2nd annual Social Media Day (#smday & #mashsmday). “The global event is a celebration of the technological advancements that enable everyone to connect with real-time information, communicate from miles apart and have their voices be heard,” claims Mashable’s Community Manager, Meghan Peters. People are encouraged to connect with other web enthusiasts by hosting or attending a Social Media Day Meetup in their area.
Social Media is changing the way our world works and we want to hear how people are being affected by the changes. Please have fun participating in our contest mentioned below and you might just learn something:
How Has Social Media Impacted or Changed Your Life?
In order to celebrate Social Media Day, Social Strategy1 is hosting a contest on our Facebook Fan Page. Simply go to the Facebook page and share “How Social Media Has Changed Your Life.” All submissions MUST be 200 words or less and MUST be posted on the Social Strategy1 Fan Page Wall (Contest Ends 11 A.M. EST on 6/30/2011). The winning post will be announced and featured in a SS1 blog post on Social Media Day next Thursday (6/30). The winner will receive a $75 Amazon.com Gift Card from Social Strategy1.

Social media has changed how I do my job, how I pursue my hobbies and interests, and how I connect with friends and family. I have a full-time job, a novel I am marketing actively, and an antique business; I am in the process of writing a biography and another novel, have about 42 other hobbies or interests, five pets, a teenage son, a husband who is not well — and at some point, I have to sleep. Without social media, one of the things that would have to drop off my radar completely would be connecting with family and friends; instead, the opposite is true, because social media provides the opportunity to get sound-bite sized updates on everyone in only a few minutes a day.
