Social Media Off The Wall: Shatner Fries Turkey, Jeopardy Gambler, & Blonde on Escalator

Social Media Off The Wall is a post every Friday where I share funny and entertaining stories, or digital media clips that are trending & being shared frequently on social networks.  If you have an interesting story or media bit that you think I can use in SMOTW, please feel free to share it with me via Twitter: (@mlewii | #smotw).

“Eat, Fry, Love”

William Shatner has taken on some very odd roles since his days as Captain Kirk on Star Trek: The Dodgeball Chancellor in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Denny Crane on The Practice and Boston Legal, and of course the very curious Priceline.com Negotiator. His latest venture was acting in a humorous Turkey Fryer Safety Video called, “Eat, Fry, Love” for State Farm.

“Blinded by my hunger, I ignored safety, spat in the face of science.” – William Shatner

This video is a great way to warn people of the dangers during the holidays and has almost 200,000 views in just 4 days on YouTube!  Are you planning on frying a turkey during the holidays?

The Jeopardy Gambler

I am big fan of Jeopardy and playing along with the contestants when I can catch the show on weeknights.  During the beginning of this week and end of last week NBC aired the Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions competition, which pairs the best contestants of the past year into the Jeopardy formatted competition.  Normally, game show viral videos feature goofs or funny bloopers of the host or contestants getting their tongue tied and saying something they wish they had not said. Roger Craig managed to change this stereotype by getting two back-to-back True Daily Doubles (which is just ridiculous) must watch:

The crazy thing is that before he went on the tremendous run, he was already in first place! Alex Trebek also had to rub it in for the other contestants by saying, “Oh Boy. Making it really tough for Tom and Buddy.” This clip will go down in game show history and has almost one million views in just 4 days on YouTube.

Blonde on an Escalator

I have never been one of those who believed that a person’s hair color reflected their intelligence or personality. Blondes have always received a bad rap for being ditzy or absent minded, and the following video really hurts their fight against these accusations:

Although some viewers have claimed that she was trying to exercise, she clearly went the wrong way and tried to fix it without too many people noticing. Her main problem is that she runs out of gas near the top and the camera never stops rolling. Have you ever seen anything like this and wondered, “What is that person doing?”

Everyone have a safe and fun weekend, and try not to stuff your faces with too much food next week! Happy Thanksgiving!
