Social Media Off The Wall: Smartphone Office, Country Skin Secrets, and Chuck Testa

Social Media Off The Wall is a post every Friday where I share funny and entertaining stories, or digital media clips that are trending & being shared frequently on social networks.  If you have a great story or media bit that you think I can use in SMOTW, please feel free to share it with me via Twitter (@mlewii | #smotw).

Smartphone Office

I cannot say that I have really enjoyed many mobile and smartphone commercials since the video gold of Nextel’s “Push It” TV advertisement. Smartphones are obviously making our world move and grow faster than ever. Knowledge sharing is happening at a ridiculous rate right now and I think AT&T does a great job of showing this fast moving world in a new commercial for the BlackBerry Torch 4G:

“That’s Mayor Dennis, of the Water Cooler.” Normally advertisements, unless promoted heavily are not viral video worthy.  This AT&T commercial has taken off on its own and has almost 1 million views (around 800,000) on YouTube in just 4 days. What do you think about smartphone usage in the office place?

Country Skin Secrets

Marketing for award shows has always been interesting because the major networks want the hosts to seem entertaining to potential viewers without wasting too many good jokes during the promotion. This year’s Country Music Association Awards (CMAs) was televised by ABC and hosted by Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley.  Although the awards aired this week ABC posted a funny promotional commercial of Brad and Carrie on their YouTube Page:

After only 4 days on YouTube the video has over 3.75 Million views (I wonder how many of these viewers actually saw the CMA Awards Show).  I personally loved the ad, Brad Paisley is a great performer and apparently has a great since of humor.

Songify Chuck Testa

If you have not seen the original Chuck Testa video, I featured it on Social Media Off The Wall a few weeks ago and you must see it to believe it. The Gregory Brothers are back at it again with Songify This – “CHUCK TESTA - a song about lifelike dead animals”:

Like most of their videos, the Songify Chuck Testa video has around 1.5 million views on YouTube in less than 5 days.

What do you think of this Songify This video? Is the Chuck Testa song as good as the Antoine Dodson song, or the “Reality Hits You Hard Bro” video?

I want to wish all the veterans out there a very special Veterans Day, thank you so much for what you do or have done for this country! Everyone have a safe and wonderful weekend!
