A Social Launch for 2012 Pres. Race

And so it begins. More than 18 months before the election, President Obama announced his official reelection bid on the platform that brought him so much success in 2008: social media. The campaign’s social launch includes a YouTube video and Facebook ads, which will run in conjunction with an email campaign and texts directed at supporters.

The description that accompanies the YouTube video, titled “It Begins With Us,” starts: “The politics we believe in starts not with expensive TV ads or extravaganzas, but with you—with people organizing block-by-block, talking to neighbors, co-workers and friends.” No matter what we might think of the President’s politics, it seems his campaign “gets” social media and is ready to leverage its power once again to raise money and generate engagement.
