I’ve recently started reading Gary Vaynerchuk’s book, “The Thank You Economy”. I thought I’d give insights as I go instead of giving a full book review when I’m done.

I’m at the beginning where he first talks about how different the commerce world was in the days of our grandparents. In those days, word of mouth had nothing to do with a tweet or Facebook status. He goes through the changes the local store went through to today’s Wally Marts of the world. Our kids can’t even relate to what a customer was back then when today being a customer means being greeted by someone in a blue vest.

Although I decided to pick this book up for obvious reasons of being in the social media industry, as I’m reading it, it’s speaking to me as a person, not as a social media blogger. Then I remembered a post I saw by Danny Brown, Where You Fit In. Danny’s post also made me think about me, not me as my job. He approaches being a brand as being you. Which ties into what Gary’s book is about, keeping it personal.

Saying, showing, doing something with the premise that you are grateful and want to show it on a personal level is the best personal and business model you can have. What have you done for your customers to say “Thank you”? What have you done in your personal life to show that you are grateful?
