Mashable’s Jennifer Van Grove reports that a new iPhone and Android app, Domo, allows Facebookers to connect with nearby strangers who share specific interests. How? It collects info about a user’s interests as well as his or her registered location. Then it connects that user to other nearby Domo users who share the same interests. The now-connected strangers can say “hi”, share photos, or send messages.

Do Facebook users want to connect with strangers? It does seem a tad weird in a day-to-day context. Do mobile users really want to connect with a random person in the next neighborhood who just happens to like what they like, such as Family Guy or long walks on the beach? However, Van Grove does suggest a possible use: Domo might be a fun way for event attendees, say at the upcoming SXSW, to “virtually” bump into each other.

Even if Domo doesn’t catch on, app developers will continue to find ways to marry mobile markets to social media platforms.
