Ken & Barbie Tweetin’ in a Tree

I was driving to and fro yesterday morning and, as usual, my twitchy radio finger was cruising the morning shows. Within a space of a about 5 minutes I heard 3 different radio stations announce that Ken’s social media campaign had won over Barbie’s heart. They were finally get back together – oh, happy day!

While on-air, one of the personalities checked Barbie’s Facebook page and reported that her status had been changed to “in a relationship.” On another station, the morning team gleefully related the 411 on Barbie and Ken’s apparently tumultuous relationship – including her pursuit of a surfer.

Guess what my husband asked me last night? “Hey, did you hear about this Ken and Barbie thing?”

Cheesy campaign? Maybe…Barbie posted on Facebook: “Valentine’s Day was a Ken-plete dream.” But strategically released in the days leading up to Valentine’s and using a variety of social media networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare, the campaign resonated enough to generate buzz.

But will that buzz translate to revenue?
