It’s official. Fox recently announced that there will be voting on Facebook starting March 1.  Facebook users will be able to vote up to 50 times during the designated voting period.

“We have been wanting to do online voting for several years, and now Facebook has offered us a secure solution and we are ready to go,” said Simon Fuller, the show’s creator. “The show has always involved a high level of engagement with its viewers through texting and phone voting, and it’s great to expand on this tradition.” – From CNN.com

This news should be welcomed by anyone who’s been frustrated with busy signals when calling the toll-free number. However the reviews are mixed from comments online. Some speculate that this will only encourage a slew of fake Facebook accounts to be created. Others worry that this will only add to the impression that it’s only teenage girls voting on the cutest guy and not based on talent.

Regardless of how this new voting option is viewed it’s clear that television executives are sold on the idea of using social media in their voting options. It has also been reported by People Magazine that the upcoming talent show “X Factor” will also offer the Facebook voting method. Who’s next? The Biggest Loser, Survivor, The Apprentice?
