Social Strategy1 Proudly Supports the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund

May 23, 2011 | By | No Comments

The Tom Coughlin Jay Fund has always been very close to our hearts here at ILD Corp. / Social Strategy1 since its founding in 1996.  Tom and Judy Coughlin continue to grow their vision and desire to “help lessen the financial and emotional burdens for families who have a child with cancer.” The Jay Fund continues to increase their contributions and has a greater impact annually; continuing to share the inspiration of the late Jay McGillis, for whom the Foundation is named after.

It was very gracious for so many celebrities and professional athletes to come show their support for such a great cause at this years’ Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation’s 2011 Celebrity Golf Classic.  During introductions, the entire ballroom stood and recognized General Ray Odierno for his amazing service and dedication to our country (very patriotic moment). Sports media celebrities like; ESPN’s Chris Berman, Tom Jackson, Chris Mortensen and Sports Illustrated’s Peter King were all in attendance at the TPC Sawgrass to help the Jay Fund.

I enjoyed meeting the NFL Network’s Sterling Sharpe (a Gamecock with a golf game) and listening to the Swami’s (Chris Berman) take on the lockout.  Many current NFL players from the New York Giants, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Super Bowl Champion Green Bay Packers were noticeably bigger than most people in the room.  Tom even made a joke about finally being able to see some of his players, and check on their conditions.

The highlight of the night was getting to see the 5 young Jay Fund Artists; Cade Eckley, Ellie Kavalieros, Zachary Mason, Antjuan Sanders, and Sydney Svendsen, who all made birdhouses for the auction, walk out on stage and tell the audience about their heroes.  Also Rudy Wells was recognized and awarded the 2011 Jay Fund Scholarship; he will be attending the University of Florida this fall and hopes to become an Oncologist.  Good luck Rudy!

A special thanks to the other sponsors and donors who made this event possible for everyone.  Also I think it goes without saying that Tom & Judy Coughlin, The Jay Fund Board, Keli Coughlin Joyce and her team all go above and beyond the call of duty for these special youngsters and their families.  As always Jay McGillis and the Jay Fund kids will continue to inspire us all daily.
