Foursquare Dances with Daily Deals
Want deals? Foursquare now has them. The company is working with five partners to offer daily deals to its iPhone, Android, and Blackberry app users. The location-based social media site calls it “targeting with social justification.” Foursquare will offer targeted deals based on users’ check-in histories, time of day, and location to offer specials for LivingSocial, Gilt City, AT&T Interactive, BuyWithMe and Zozi. Reports also say that a partnership with Groupon may be in the works.
Foursquare users will find the deals within the Explore tab, and, if interested, can purchase them immediately. The social network hasn’t disclosed how much of the revenue it will reap from the specials.
Aside from the fact that the term “targeting with social justification” is a bit creepy, this seems like a natural progression of social media’s increasing integration.
