Social Media Off The Wall: Whale Too Close, Conan’s Delivery, & Halloween Pranks

November 4, 2011 | By | No Comments

Social Media Off The Wall is a post every Friday where I share funny and entertaining stories or digital media clips that are trending & being shared frequently on social networks.  If you have a great story or media bit that you think I can use in SMOTW, please feel free to share it with me via Twitter (@mlewii | #smotw).

Whale Almost Swallows Surfer

I bet I am not the only person who would really love to go out on a whale watching tour while vacationing the Pacific Northwest or other areas these giants can be found.  When the whales are sited I would be perfectly fine viewing and filming from a boat.  Barb Roettger of Santa Cruz, California was able to capture great video of these beautiful Humpback whales feeding up close. The only problem was that she was filming a surfer and 2 people in a kayak who got a little too close, when the whales surfaced with mouths wide open.

The video is simply amazing and will teach anyone to stay away or far enough back from whale feeding grounds or else you might make their menu accidentally. The video which was just posted 2 days ago (59,000 views) has already made the national news and is just jaw dropping to see again and again.

Conan O’Brien Delivers Chinese Food

Conan O’Brien returned to New York City this week to perform live and share his humor with the people of the Big Apple again. Coco as he is known by his fans, decided to help deliver Chinese food to help understand the efficiency of New York City food delivery. Watch the skit below:

The video aired 2 days ago and already has 328,915 views on YouTube. I can’t believe the lady turned down the food, had no idea who Conan O’Brien is, and did not care to be on camera at all (then the friendly lady spills coffee on him). Conan can take any situation and make it funny, which is why he continues to have a large following (not to mention he is a viral video superstar).

Jimmy Kimmel’s Halloween Prank

Jimmy Kimmel who was featured in last week’s SMOTW for the Pet Costume PSA video, has made it back with another hilarious video.  Last week he asked parent viewers of his show to film themselves telling their children that they had eaten all of the child’s Halloween candy and then submit the videos to his staff. Here are some of the videos that made the show:

The video has blown up on YouTube with over 325,000 views in less than 2 days. The kid at the end talking about his parents getting a “Tummy” ache is hilarious. I would have been pretty angry had my folks taken my Halloween candy (despite the fact I could only put a 10% dent into the candy mountain).

What do you think about this prank?

That’s it for this week’s SMOTW, have a wonderful weekend everyone!
