Social Media Off The Wall: AA Lost Jack and the Human Slingshot
Social Media Off The Wall is a blog I post every Friday, where I will share funny and entertaining stories or digital media that were shared via social networks this week. If you have a great story or media bit that you think can make SMOTW please feel free to share it with me via Twitter (@mlewii).
AA Lost Cat
Last weekend Karen Pascoe was traveling with her two adopted cats from New York to San Francisco in order to start her new job. Her cats were too large to carry on so they were both checked into cargo in separate carriers. Pascoe said goodbye to her cats and headed to her terminal to grab a bite to eat.
She soon received a call from American Airlines letting her know that her cat named “Jack” had escaped out of the kennel. The Airline promised Pascoe that they would do whatever they could to find the cat and update her within the next day. After waiting a day Pascoe began trying to reach the airline baggage area via phone, but had no success. As options were running thin Karen’s sister set up a Facebook Page (over 12,000 fans) to try and get some help and information. After setting up a Twitter account and waiting over 60 hours Pascoe finally heard back from the airline.
“I can’t help but feel a little frustrated that they didn’t have a better procedure in place, but they’re finally stepping up and are on their game to help me.” – Karen Pascoe
Pascoe credits social media for making the airline increase their search efforts and actually care about the situation. Jack is still on the loose but American Airlines is now offering to fly Karen back to New York and enlist the help of a “pet detective” (not Ace Ventura) to help find him. Hopefully there will be a happy ending to Jack & Karen’s ordeal.
This is probably one of the most ingenious redneck inventions ever made. I mean that in all sincerity, I really love redneck ingenuity. Check it out:
In just 2 days Vooray has had almost 700,000 (694,229) views of their viral video on YouTube. Although the video has a brand behind it, it really never comes off as a sale’s pitch or a “buy our clothes now fool” message, which I think is great. I am very jealous that I could not be a part of all that fun, but a great video nonetheless.
I hope everyone has a save a happy holiday weekend! Please remember to share any stories or videos you come across, that you feel are perfect for Social Media Off The Wall blog.
