Social Media Leadership – Practical Applications for Business
Over the past couple of years of I have read many books about social media from academics to social media gurus. Some good, some not so good and most have consistent themes – Social Media platforms are exploding and are not going away. There is wisdom in the crowd. Consumers have a voice both with brands and each other. While all of those themes are valid and businesses need to embrace social media, for the small to medium size business executive or owner the question is not should they participate in social media but how?
My good friend, business partner and now author, Mike Lewis, has recently published a book “Social Media Leadership: How to Get Off the Bench and Into the Game”. As the title implies this book is not about social media jargon and theory, it’s about the practical application of social media for your business written by someone who has done it in his business.
There is an old saying that if you watched how the sausage was made you would never eat it. In this instance I did watch how this book was put together and who Mike talked to and where he derived his information and knowing that makes it even easier to endorse the finished product. While Mike is a leader in the field of business applications for social media, he solicited input from other business, industry and thought leaders. He delves into all the practical applications of social media for business from social commerce to reputation management to compliance and corporate governance and many others.
This book is intended to take the mystery out of social media and provide business leaders with the thoughts, ideas and tools to incorporate social media into their business. I trust that you will be able to use this book as a reference point to make social media part of your business strategy.
