Promoted Tweets – Coming Soon to a Stream Near You!
Promoted tweets will start appearing in Twitter streams in the next eight weeks. Advertisers’ messages will be shown smack in the middle of users’ streams, according to Mashable. The report says the social network micro-blogging site has been working closely with potential advertisers, assuring them that their paid-for tweets will stick to the top of the page, even when the user scrolls down.
Twitter’s iPhone app had a similar feature, called Quick Bar, which many users found intrusive and irritating. As a result, Twitter unceremoniously dropped the feature.
Also reported by Financial Times is the possibility of a Groupon like product that will offer time-limited special offers. They may also introduce enhanced profiles for brands and media management tools that would allow advertisers to schedule posts.
How do you think consumers will react to promoted tweets?
