Do These Marketing Stats Surprise You?

Social media has changed the online landscape quickly. So quickly that some of the things we knew as fact just a few years ago have changed dramatically. On HubSpot Blog, Marta Kagan shares some of those changes in 12 Mind-Blowing Statistics Every Marketer Should Know. Here are a few that jumped out:

  • Web-based email usage dropped 59% among 12-17 year olds in the last year. Instead teens communicate on social networks and through text and instant messaging. Is your strategy prepared to deal with the upcoming generation of consumers who are all but immune to email marketing?
  • 78% of web users do online product research. Consumers are looking for brands online—and it doesn’t matter if you’re a small town law firm or a big city graphic design company. Firms that don’t work to build and manage a positive online presence are giving up market share and revenue to those that do. 
  • 41% of B2B companies have acquired a customer via Facebook. Social networks are not just for consumer brands. B2Bs who ignore the Facebook factor may just find themselves edged out by competitors who do maintain a presence on the social network.
