SMOTW: Incredible Viral Videos May 2011

Karmin Killing It

This month has been very good for viral videos.  On April 12 Karmin, a duo from the Boston Massachusetts area, posted a video of a cover song they did for Chris Brown’s Look at Me Now. The video has driven over 16 million views in a month and the NBA recently hired the group to perform their song, Take It Away, in a promotional video for the NBA Championship Series.  It is amazing how things change so quickly because of the speed and reach the internet possesses (from YouTube- Ellen DeGeneres Show- Record Deal).  @KarminMusic congratulations on the success via social media, now you can teach young musicians how to grow their brand and music online.

Taking the Field

Last week a video was posted from a Houston Astros game, where a fan ran on to the field and made and incredible escape from authorities. The fans had a great response as well; instead of being bothered by the delay of game while this guy ran around, they applaud his amazing escape.

Astros’ fans haven’t had much to applaud recently with the teams’ struggles playing and finding a new owner. This guy is like a ninja but he his lucky that a ball player did not try to grab him like David Beckham did to a field charging fan several years ago when he played for Manchester United.

One Man Band

Alaa Wardi from Saudi Arabia has an amazing talent; he literally can hit so many different notes singing that he is a one man band / A Capella group.  On May 17th he posted a video displaying his amazing musical abilities. Watch the video for yourself, it’s all in Arabic but hearing his voice(s) is more important than understanding the words to Nancy Ajram’s Fi Hagat.

Wardi’s version of the song is very impressive and has received over 400,000 views via YouTube.  I will be interested to see if he or someone else will do these types of videos for the English speaking audiences.

Please feel free to share any amazing videos that you have come across in the past month.

Enjoy the Holiday Weekend and travel safely!
